The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has opened applications for its 70th Law Enforcement Cadet Class. The application period closes Dec. 31, 2026. The class is open to people interested in becoming a Texas Game Warden or a Texas State Park Police Officer.

According to TPWD, game wardens and state park police officers are fully commissioned peace officers. In addition to enforcing Parks and Wildlife Code, they enforce Texas criminal laws, including the Penal Code, Transportation Code and Health and Safety Codes. The department said game wardens have enforced hunting, fishing and boating regulations since 1895. Game wardens also teach hunter and boater education courses and help with search, rescue and recovery operations during emergencies and natural disasters.

TPWD said Texas State Park Police Officers have served in state parks across Texas for more than 50 years. They protect visitors, enforce state laws and park rules, and respond to emergencies.
