Argyle ISD told families by email on Thursday that Board President Sam Slaton has resigned from his seat on the board of trustees. Slaton had served on the board for more than nine years, most recently by appointment after elected trustee Josh Westrom stepped down in June. The district chose to appoint rather than hold an election because it believed the board would benefit from operating with all seven seats filled.
Slaton had been appointed board president after Leigh Ann Artho stepped down at the district's Oct. 19 meeting. At that meeting, board secretary Matt Slaton announced his resignation and walked out of the room after addressing concerns with district leadership. Sam Slaton was not present at the board's next meeting, held Monday, Oct. 26.
In his announcement, Slaton said serving the district had been one of the greatest honors of his life. He also mentioned the hardships of serving on the board. According to the district, the board now has five members and faces losing its superintendent at the end of the fall semester.
