DHR Health has added Dr. Victor E. Prado, a double board-certified transplant nephrologist, to its Transplant Institute in the Rio Grande Valley. The hospital said the institute serves patients in the Valley, Laredo, Corpus Christi and nearby communities.
Prado is a native of Lima, Peru, and speaks English and Spanish. He graduated from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia medical school in Peru. He completed an internal medicine residency at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, then two fellowships in general nephrology and transplant nephrology at the University of California San Francisco.
Marissa Castaneda, senior executive vice president at DHR Health, said the hospital wants patients and their families to receive specialized care without traveling outside the Valley. Prado said he was excited to join the team and contribute to the growth of the Transplant Institute. DHR Health said Prado will manage kidney patients' care before, during and after transplant, working with its transplant surgeons and a multidisciplinary team.
