A federal court has issued a temporary restraining order blocking the City of Granbury from removing political signs until after the 2026 General Election. The court granted an emergency request from Kolton Krottinger, a U.S. Navy veteran and Hood County Republican precinct chair, who sued the city on Wednesday. He alleges officials violated his First Amendment rights by removing signs criticizing City Councilman Gary "Skip" Overdier while leaving neighboring campaign signs in place.
Overdier did not resign after a recall petition was filed against him in July. He is running for re-election against Janet Logsdon on November 3. Overdier is among three city officials suing to block the recall proceedings.
According to the report, city code enforcement personnel took five small signs and one banner on October 19, the first day of early voting. The city required a $50 cash payment to return them, citing a "Sign Placement Violation." The court will consider on November 9 whether to extend the order while the case is reviewed.
