Elon Musk responded early Wednesday to Republican losses in Texas and across the country with a sarcastic post on X, the social media platform he owns. He wrote that his "election-interfering space lasers" did not work this time. In a separate message, he wrote that data centers in space looked appealing.
The posts came hours after Democrats won several major statewide races in Texas. Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, lost the U.S. Senate race to Democrat James Talarico.
Campaign finance figures reported by Agence France-Presse said Musk contributed nearly half a billion dollars to Republican efforts in the 2026 midterm cycle. Campaign finance tracker OpenSecrets said that made him the largest individual contributor in a federal election cycle since the 2010 Citizens United decision. Much of his money went to America PAC and the Senate Leadership Fund, which used $158 million from Musk in September to support Paxton's campaign.
