A sixth grader in Anahuac Jr. FFA, Aubree Bettis, won the rabbit competition at the Trinity Valley Exposition Youth Livestock Auction in Liberty. Her rabbit sold for $50,000, and she became the event's biggest earner.
Bettis' father, Jared, has brain cancer, specifically glioblastoma, according to the story. Local businesses and community members came together to help the family, and buyers included NxGen Group, WOWCO Equipment Co., 1900 Feed, Fregia Construction, Tommy Watts, Earnie Dickens and Robby Herrington. TVE Facilities Manager Gina Worthy said the sale was a record for market rabbits and an overall record for the event.
Overall sales at the exposition reached over $1 million, including livestock and freezer sales, and the grand and reserve champions brought in more than $250,000. Other Chambers County sales included a $5,000 grand champion market goat from Geovanni Garcia, a $5,750 trailer from Teal and Colt Kraehnke, and a $9,500 reserve champion market swine from Bradley Poole.
