Chris Trotter, a 1985 Winnsboro High School graduate, took over as interim superintendent of Winnsboro ISD on July 7. Trotter said he contacted two school board members after learning the district needed a superintendent. He had retired from full-time school administration and was doing consulting work at the time. He previously served three years as superintendent of Cleveland ISD and has more than three decades in public education.
The district had faced months of scrutiny after several administrators, employees and a school board member were arrested in connection with an investigation involving allegations of educator misconduct with a student. Trotter said his first priority was to help employees heal. He spent his first two weeks meeting one-on-one with staff about their goals and the district's main obstacles.
Trotter said some employees were still dealing with the previous school year. He worked with campus administrators to change pre-school staff development so employees had time to talk and prepare for the year ahead.
