The Texas Department of Transportation's Pedestrian Safety Team held a high-visibility, four-hour campaign at several New Boston Road intersections in Texarkana, Texas, on Thursday. Team members wore placards with pedestrian safety messages as they crossed Robison Road at New Boston Road.

According to TxDOT public information officer Heather Deaton, the goal was to encourage pedestrians to use crosswalks. The campaign also aimed to have pedestrians make eye contact with motorists as they entered an intersection.

Team members John McBee, Janely Cruz, Charlene Garth and John Schroeder took part in the campaign. Deaton said team members can walk up to 10,000 steps during a campaign.
