United Way of Laredo is preparing an Adult Spelling Bee Team Contest and silent auction to raise money for its mission. Organizers are still looking for teams and sponsors, according to Daniel De La Miyar, who is listed as president-elect.
Executive director Peggy Duncan said the idea followed a youth spelling bee the organization held in March. After that event, the advisory board decided to offer a competition for adults too. Teams will have three members, and each team will work together to decide on the correct spelling of each word.
The contest will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Falcon Event Center, 7718 McPherson Road, Building D-1, in Laredo. People who want to sign up or become a sponsor can call United Way of Laredo at 956-723-9113.
