Vice President JD Vance spoke to a large crowd of Republicans in Weatherford on Thursday, urging Texans to send Attorney General Ken Paxton to the U.S. Senate. The rally was held at Joe R. Jones Construction. The venue was full, and a large group gathered outside. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins told attendees it was the largest rally Vance had held.
Vance focused much of his speech on Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico. He criticized Talarico's past comments on race, gender and transgender issues. Vance also said Talarico's views on transgender issues for children were out of step with Texas voters. He said a Talarico win would be seen by the national left as a defeat for Texas.
On energy, Vance said Talarico had supported limits on oil and gas production and was now campaigning on high gas prices. Vance praised Paxton for his lawsuits against the federal government, technology companies and insurance providers during his time as attorney general.
