Four short-lived tornadoes touched down in Uvalde and Kinney counties on Thursday evening, Oct. 29, as strong storms moved across the region, according to the National Weather Service. All four were rated EF0, the lowest rating on the Enhanced Fujita scale. A damage survey released Friday by the NWS offices in Austin and San Antonio found the tornadoes stayed over open ranchland. No one was hurt, and damage was limited to trees and brush.
The survey estimated peak winds of about 60 to 70 mph for the four tornadoes. Three of the four paths were estimated from radar data showing debris lifted by the storms, the survey said.
The NWS also reported heavy rain in the 24 hours ending at 10 a.m. Friday. A gauge about 3 miles southwest of Del Rio recorded 4.41 inches, and another gauge 2 miles south of the city recorded 4.08 inches. Eagle Pass and Carrizo Springs each recorded 1.44 inches at the gauges reported.
