Ella Hedekin grew up in San Diego and moved to Texas for school at Baylor. She stayed in Waco for a couple of years before moving to Austin over the summer to teach third grade. She lives in a small place with a roommate in Hyde Park.
Hedekin said she has felt "positively overwhelmed" by the number of things to do in Austin. She has already visited some popular spots, including Barton Springs and several restaurants, but she wants advice from people who know the city better.
She asked the KUT column ATXplained for recommendations on where a newcomer should start, what locals consider go-to Austin activities, and where to take visitors. She also asked that suggestions stay within a $50 maximum budget.
