The Wood County Old Settlers Reunion returns to Gov. Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. The event includes carnival rides, live entertainment, food and vendors. Midwest Rides will bring 10 rides for different age groups, four midway games and two food trucks.
OSR Vice President Brooke Rogers said preserving the reunion's history and passing the tradition to future generations is important. The OSR board committed $20,000 to secure the carnival, relying on sponsorships and community support to help cover the cost. The reunion was moved to the fall last year. This year it falls on Halloween weekend.
Saturday's schedule includes the Peoples Foundation Monster Mash Dash 5K at 8:30 a.m., with a prize for the best costume. The Stitchin' Heaven Quilt Show opens at 10 a.m. at the Wood County Arboretum, and a Bigfoot art ribbon cutting is also set for 10 a.m. Wood County Electric Cooperative will hold its membership meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bingo, run by the Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club, is scheduled for 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Free activities for children include Giant Hungry Hippos, a maze and a kiddy midway. Saturday evening features gospel music by area church bands.
