Joe Wilder and his son, Jay Wilder, run a farm in Burleson County that has been in the family since 1912. The two have been in partnership since 1995. Jay Wilder said his father has gradually stepped back from the work over the last eight to 10 years, but the two still talk and go over decisions together.

The Wilders said family farms face many pressures, including land-use values, urban sprawl and increased regulations. Joe Wilder said it is concerning to see other local family farms sold because younger family members chose not to continue the work.

Joe Wilder said he believes his grandsons will stay on the farm. He said they started working at a young age and can handle most tasks. Jay Wilder said he hopes to hand the farm to the next generation and that his children may one day pass it to their own children.
