The Sharyland Lady Pioneer Diamondbacks swept the Brownsville Pace Lady Vikings 25-21, 25-11 and 25-19 on Monday night. The win gave Sharyland its fourth straight Area Championship and a spot in the State Sweet 16. The team will play the Boerne High Lady Greyhounds at Laredo United High School.
Senior captain Izabella Cano said she is excited about the team's chances. "I know that we can make it very far with this team and this group of girls," she said. The team is 40-2 this season, which the report says is the most single-season wins in school history.
The Texas Girls Coaches Association ranked the team inside its 5A top five for much of the season. The team finished fourth in the association's final regular-season poll. The Lady Diamondbacks are currently ranked second behind Argyle in the most recent 5A D-2 playoff rankings.
