A trial date of March 22 has been set for Stevon Crowder, a former Angelina County jailer, following a docket hearing, according to KLTV. Judge Kristi Skillern set the date.

Skillern said she does not have answers as to why the case has taken so long, but said the cases need to be heard. She said she was not pointing fingers at anyone and that victims deserve to have the cases heard. She also said Crowder does not need the matter hanging over him anymore.

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers investigated the allegations, which began on May 20, 2013, and involved interviews in Angelina, Henderson, Coryell and Burnett counties. Crowder was charged with eight counts of official oppression and five counts of civil rights violations. Two of the civil rights counts involve alleged sexual assault by contact. The oppression counts allege that Crowder made inappropriate comments toward female prisoners. The civil rights counts allege that he touched inmates inappropriately.
