Amarillo police responded Wednesday evening to a vehicle-pedestrian crash in the 4100 block of Bell Street. Police said a white pickup truck heading south on Bell struck a pedestrian who was crossing the street. The pedestrian fell into the northbound lanes. The truck's driver stopped and got out to check on the pedestrian.
Police said a dark-colored GMC Sierra then hit both the driver and the pedestrian and drove away. The pedestrian died at the scene. An autopsy has been ordered.
The truck's driver was taken to a hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. Officers later found the GMC Sierra and arrested its driver, Laura Koenig, 48. She was booked into the Randall County Jail and charged with collision involving death.
