Graham Mayor Alex Heartfield said the city is defined by a close-knit community that works together and celebrates milestones together. He has lived in Graham since 2010 and said the city has kept its small-town charm, which he hopes it keeps for years to come. He pointed to events such as the Christmas parade and stroll, the Fourth of July parade and Friday night football games.

Heartfield, who grew up in Huntsville, said he came to love the city's downtown square, lakes and outdoor spaces. He said he never planned to become mayor. He said former Mayor Neal Blanton approached him about running for city council while he was working with the Youth Leadership program. Heartfield said he ran unopposed and later became mayor after Blanton left the role.

Heartfield said Graham's issues have grown more complex. He said the biggest controversy when he started in 2020 was whether the city would replace alley dumpsters with rollout carts. He said data centers and solar farms are now the most contentious issues. He attributed the city's growing pains to development spreading outward from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and said he expects the population to double in the next two to three decades. He listed affordable housing, streets, water and wastewater infrastructure and public safety as priorities.
