Maverick County has been selected to host the County and District Clerks' Association of Texas (CDCAT) Region VIII Spring Conference in 2027, Maverick County District Clerk Leopoldo "Polo" Vielma announced. Members chose the county by vote during a business meeting at the CDCAT Region VIII Fall Conference, held October 6 through 8, 2026.
Vielma said the region includes 34 counties and 62 clerks. He also said he was selected as Co-Director of the State Clerks Association to represent the region and Maverick County.
The CDCAT is a statewide professional group divided into eight regions. It works on continuing education, professional standards and cooperation among county and district clerks. Regional conferences cover legislative changes, court administration, records management and technology.
Vielma said hosting the event will also highlight Eagle Pass and Maverick County and could benefit local businesses and the hospitality industry. Eagle Pass hosted the CDCAT Region VIII Spring Meeting in 2025.
