At the Kyle Area Chamber of Commerce's State of Education luncheon on Oct. 27 at Texas Old Town, Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright and Austin Community College representatives discussed campus expansions, career training and partnerships meant to help students move from high school to college and jobs. The event was Wright's last State of Education address to the chamber before he retires.

Wright reported district enrollment of 25,441 students, about 500 fewer than projected. He said long-term forecasts point to about 45,000 students within 10 years, with about 3,500 homes built each year within district boundaries.

Construction has begun on the district's fourth comprehensive high school, which will be its fifth high school overall, including Live Oak Academy. Wright said the campus, planned near the Sunfield subdivision off Turnersville Road in Buda's exterritorial jurisdiction, is expected to open for the 2029-30 school year. The district is also expanding classrooms at existing high, middle and elementary schools. Wright said adding capacity at established campuses can help manage the operating costs of opening new schools.
