Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters said he is not worried about Texas, which he called "Ruby Red," even as President Donald Trump campaigns in the state. Speaking with FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, Gruters said the U.S. Senate race, the governor's race and several congressional races are close.

Gruters said Trump is a "turnout machine" who has drawn low-propensity voters in three elections and could do it again. He said he does not pay much attention to polls and that the only poll that matters is election day. He also said he does not believe Ken Paxton will turn off voters.

Asked about the close races, Gruters said he did not expect Texas to be competitive but said midterm cycles often bring this result. He said anger on the left grows as the president has more success. Gruters also said Beto was a stronger candidate than Talarico, whom he described as a weak choice.
