The Trump administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow construction of border walls and other barriers across the Big Bend region to continue. The emergency request came weeks after a U.S. district judge issued an injunction blocking construction there, according to Marfa Public Radio.

Justice Samuel Alito asked the plaintiffs in the case to file a brief by Thursday opposing the government's request. The plaintiffs are the Center for Biological Diversity, a church preservation group and a local river guide. Marfa Public Radio reporter Mary Cantrell spoke with Amy Howe, founder of the Supreme Court-focused news outlet SCOTUSblog, about the case and what could happen next.
