Madisonville defeated the Liberty Lady Panthers in a Class 4A Region III area volleyball championship on Tuesday night at Porter High School. The teams met in a rematch of last year's match, which Madisonville won in five games. This year's games were close, and the match ended 3-1 in Madisonville's favor, with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-22.
Madisonville led the first game 18-13 after a 9-4 run, then held on to win 25-22. Liberty trailed 22-20 late in the game before Madisonville closed it out. Madisonville also won the second game, and Liberty took the third game 25-23 with a late run led by Harper, Elliott and Duff, according to the match account.
Bella Elliott, Rayne Nugent, Kendall Harper, Allie Slack and Adryan Duff were among the Liberty players who scored in the match. Katherine Newton and Ruby Redden were among the Madisonville players who scored.
