The Texas Department of Transportation said darker streets and people being harder to see make October and November the most dangerous months of the year for pedestrians in Texas.

According to TxDOT, nearly 700 pedestrians were killed and more than 1,300 were seriously hurt in traffic crashes across Texas last year. Most of those crashes happened at night.

TxDOT's "Be Safe. Drive Smart." campaign asks drivers to slow down, put their phones away and watch for people in crosswalks.
