As of Monday night, 10,983 ballots had been cast in Nacogdoches County, according to the county elections office. That is just over 27% of the county's 40,489 registered voters. The total includes 10,338 in-person votes and 645 mail-in ballots.
Election Administrator Vicki Wood said early voting has slowed but that the numbers are still high for a midterm election. Early voting runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday at the courthouse annex at 203 W. Main St. Wood said she expects turnout to stay steady or increase, and that voters from outlying areas such as Etoile, Chireno, Cushing and Garrison typically wait until Election Day.
Wood said voters have used the 7 a.m. opening time but not the hours from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, when polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. around the county.
