The Odessa High girls basketball team returns six players from last year's squad and is looking to build on late-season improvement in the 2026-27 season. The Lady Bronchos open Friday at 6 p.m. against Abilene Cooper at OHS Fieldhouse.
Odessa High missed the playoffs last year. The team won two of its last four games and finished fifth in District 2-6A. Head coach Sherman Chew said the players are carrying that late run into this season. The team graduated five players, including Yaritza Carreron, a First Team All-District selection, and Mya Hernandez. Alisia Galindo and Joslyn Palma are among the players returning.
Chew said most players have been in the program for a long time and understand the expectations. He said the team plays better defense and shoots better than in past seasons, and he believes those areas will help it win games others may not expect it to win.
