The Ector County Commissioners Court approved James Poor as the new constable for Precinct 2 on Tuesday. The vote was 4-0, with Commissioner Greg Simmons absent due to a family issue. County Judge Dustin Fawcett said Kelly Cecil, Bandy Blackmon, Joseph Chew and Donovan Barreraz also applied. Poor previously served as a bailiff in District Judge Justin Lowe's court. He told the court he works hard and looks forward to doing a good job. He was scheduled to be sworn in Tuesday afternoon by Lowe.
The court also created an advisory committee for the programming and concept design phase of the future Civic Park scope tied to the Ector County Courthouse Project. The committee will report and advise the court on overall program strategy. Members include Commissioner Billy Hall, whose district includes the courthouse, Fawcett, Toby Eoff, City Councilman Craig Stoker and others. Samantha Russell proposed adding Jeff Russell to the group, but no other commissioners agreed. The committee's creation was approved 4-0.
In other action, the court approved 4-0 the donation of 222,000 pounds of rock salt from Sunita Hydrocolloids, Inc., to the county Public Works Department. It also approved a grant donation of $5,661 to Meals on Wheels of Odessa, Inc., through the Texas Department of Agriculture's Texans Feeding Texans Home Delivered Meal Grant Program.
