Legacy Hills Church in Celina has sent church planter Brandon Self to Lubbock to start Church House. Self is building a core team in the West Texas city.
Self said Lubbock has about 400,000 people and that only 30,000 of them attend church. He said many newcomers from the West Coast do not have a faith background, and that there are not enough churches to reach them.
Robert Welch, lead pastor of Legacy Hills, said the church hired Self as a worship and student ministry leader with the goal of sending him out to plant. Welch said Self has more than two years of planting experience. Legacy Hills, which meets in a middle school, now has about 200 people on Sundays. Welch said he hopes other churches will support planters.
