Construction crews plan to break ground next March on the Santa Fe Ten Memorial and Healing Park at Santa Fe High School in Galveston County. The Trevino Group, a local contractor building the site, said it hopes to finish a circle of steel feathers by May 18, the ninth anniversary of the 2018 shooting.

The memorial will name each of the 10 people who were fatally shot in the attack. The feathers will have marble pedestals bearing the victims' names, and families can add biographical information on the other side of the bases. The Santa Fe Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit formed after the shooting, plans to dedicate the memorial next May.

Santa Fe ISD officials said donations and a $2.7 million state appropriation will fund the project. Contractors have provided pro bono work and discounted rates. Jeffery Ryall, a director of preconstruction at The Trevino Group, said a coworker lost her son in the shooting. Megan Grove, chair of the foundation, said the memorial is meant to be a peaceful place to sit and reflect. The Trevino Group hopes to finish the surrounding green space by March 2028.
