Candidates facing opposition on the ballot for U.S. Senate, U.S. House District 35, Texas governor and lieutenant governor, state Senate District 21, state House District 31, comptroller, judicial posts, and agriculture, land, and railroad commissioner were invited to take part. Those who responded were asked three questions, with answers limited to 250 words each: the top issues they would address if elected and how, what prompted them to seek office now, and what qualifies them to address the issues they named.

Responses were due Oct. 13. Early voting began Oct. 19 and runs through Friday, Oct. 30. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A full list of candidates and issues, along with early voting locations and times and Election Day information, appears on page 7A.
