Brazos County commissioners approved two measures on Nov. 3. The agreements let the district attorney's and county attorney's offices continue salary supplements and benefit payments while they wait for funding through the state's Rural Prosecutor's Salary Assistance Grant Program.
Under the agreements, the county could cover up to $275,000 for each office if the grants are not awarded by Sept. 30, 2027. According to agenda material, both applications were accepted as of early September 2026 but have not been approved. Precinct 2 Commissioner Chuck Konderla said grant payments have been delayed for more than 250 counties across Texas.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Fred Brown said the county expects to receive the grant money in January and anticipates being reimbursed in full. Both measures restrict salary supplements for employees hired after Nov. 3 if the grant funding has not been awarded by that date. Commissioners approved the two requests separately.
