Edna Police Lt. Jeff Tipton was raised in Jackson County and graduated from Edna High School. He graduated from the Victoria College Police Academy in 1993 and earned a bachelor's of science degree from Victoria College and the University of Houston-Victoria.
During a 33-year law enforcement career, Tipton has worked for the Cuero Police Department, the Edna Police Department, the Ganado Police Department and Child Protective Services. His roles have included patrol officer, DARE officer, lieutenant of investigations and special investigator with CPS.
Tipton is now in his second stint with the Edna Police Department, where he serves as lieutenant and second in command of Operations. Edna Police Chief Bryan Martin said Tipton is "pretty much a Cop's Cop" and that the two share similar views on how policing should be done. Martin said he wants Tipton to train officers as they join the department and said Tipton is known in and loyal to the community.
