SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran University is mourning the deaths of two football players, A'Jean Augustine and Deyreck Dean, who died in a single-car accident early Monday morning. The university said the crash happened off campus.

Augustine, a junior from Houston, was in his third season with the Bulldogs and served as the team's kickoff specialist in 2026. He played in 16 games and graduated from Lamar High School. Dean, a senior from Rockwall, was a linebacker for the team from 2022 to 2025. He played in 26 games and recorded 64 tackles, and he was named to the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. Both players were on the 2024 and 2025 SCAC championship teams.

Head coach Neal LaHue said, "We are heartbroken by this tragic event." The university asked people to respect the privacy of both families. An on-campus memorial service will be held Thursday morning. The athletics department is offering counseling resources to student-athletes and staff.
