On Monday, Oct. 26, the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center at The University of Texas at Tyler and the Tyler Junior College Academy of Dance held a master class with the Martha Graham Dance Company. A member of the company taught the class to TJC Academy of Dance students.
Jeff Noblitt, executive director of the Cowan Center, said the center aims to give local students chances to learn from visiting artists. He said the partnership follows last season's master class with Parsons Dance Company. Carolyn Hanna, director of the TJC Academy of Dance, said students were excited about the class and the chance to see the company live.
The Martha Graham Dance Company is scheduled to perform at the Cowan Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. The performance is sponsored by James I. and Margaret Perkins, with support from the Cowan Center Performance Excellence Endowment. The company is described in the story as the oldest dance company in the nation. Local students can get discounted tickets using the code MARTHA.
