The Texas Department of Public Safety said Dongjun Kim, 19, of Edinburg, died from his injuries after the crash at about 7:43 a.m. Tuesday at 10th Street and Chapin Street north of Edinburg. Kim was riding a motorcycle northbound on 10th Street, the agency said.

DPS said the driver of a white 2016 Ford Escape, traveling eastbound on Chapin Road, stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded without yielding the right of way. The Ford struck the motorcycle. The agency said the impact caused the Ford to veer into a 2026 GMC Canyon pickup, which then struck a 2023 Cadillac XT5 SUV. DPS said Kim was wearing a helmet, protective jacket and protective gloves.

DPS said the driver and a child in the Ford were taken to South Texas Health System McAllen, and the driver and a child in the GMC were taken to DHR Health. All four of those injuries were described as non-life-threatening. The Cadillac driver was not injured, the agency said. Kim was also taken to DHR Health, where he died.
