The Sherman County Republican Party canvassed results of the Republican primary election, confirming that the three-way race for County Commissioner Precinct 4 will go to a runoff. No candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote plus one, which Texas law requires to win outright.
Rustin Russell and Tim Hudson tied for second place, which triggered an automatic recount under the Texas Election Code. After the electronic recount, both candidates had 41 votes. State law then called for a casting of lots, and the tie was settled by a domino draw in the Sherman County Election Room on Monday. Russell drew a double five. Tiffany Hudson, representing Tim Hudson, drew a double six, and Hudson advanced.
Sherman County GOP Chairman Susie Spurlock said in a statement that the tie-breaking procedure was held that afternoon. Local party officials said the recount and tie-breaking followed state law. The Republican primary runoff is scheduled for May 26, 2026.
