The Eagle Pass City Council unanimously approved a resolution on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, asking that the city be considered as a potential location for a proposed next-generation military installation. The resolution also seeks support from federal and state officials.
Councilwoman Jessica Rey Ramon presented the item. She said a federal announcement indicated the Secretary of War was seeking potential locations for a new military base. Ramon acknowledged that securing the installation would be difficult, but said the city should communicate its interest to elected representatives. She pointed to the temporary Eagle Base installation, the community's military history including the old Fort Duncan barracks, and the city's location along the international border.
Ramon said a military installation could have a substantial positive economic impact on Eagle Pass. Her proposal calls for an official letter on behalf of the city expressing its willingness to be considered.
