The Como-Pickton CISD School Board unanimously approved the 2026-2027 District Improvement Plan, which sets three goals: improving student STAAR results, creating at least one new partnership with a community organization each year, and promoting a safe environment for students and staff. Executive Director of Education Services and Communication Lezley Brown said the plan focuses on data-informed decision making, continuous improvement, accountability and partnerships. Elementary Principal Jennifer Bunch and CTE Director Michael Bowen discussed goals based on House Bill 3.
Assistant Principal Wilke Howards reported that three teachers need waivers for ESL certification and that the district's ESL numbers are down. The board also recognized October's students and teachers of the month. Fourth grader Adalynn Garrett was named Elementary Student of the Month, senior Kaylee Lavender was named High School Student of the Month, and sixth grader Mario Torres Ruboco was named Junior High Student of the Month. Life Skills teacher Jaci Sorley was named Teacher of the Month but was absent from the meeting.
In her superintendent's report, Lydia Walden gave an update on the new Band Hall. She said the concrete pad has been poured, the beams are up and all the metal was put up in a two-day span. The board also approved previous meeting minutes, a waiver for the Summer Feeding Program, and the retention of several attorneys for the 2026-2027 school year.
