New Braunfels Independent School District has opened applications for its Long Range Sustainability Committee. Applications will be accepted through Nov. 6, according to a district social media post.

The committee will review district data, consider community and staff feedback, explore long-term sustainability scenarios and develop recommendations on the future of the district's facilities and resources. Selected applicants will be notified by Nov. 13. The application states that members must be able to attend three scheduled meetings on Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and Dec. 16.

The committee is part of the district's Long Range Sustainability Process. The Herald-Zeitung previously reported that the process is intended to close a projected $7 million funding deficit for the 2027–2028 school year by consolidating two elementary schools.
