Two women were arrested in Harris County after deputies reviewed Tesla surveillance footage and found inconsistencies in their account of an alleged armed robbery, according to Constable Mark Herman's Office.
Deputies responded Oct. 24 to the 1800 block of Laurel Valley Drive, where a Tesla owner reported that a blue Audi had struck a parked vehicle and left. The owner provided footage showing the collision and the Audi's occupants leaving, the office said.
Kenyarda Mesh Leavell and Portia Ellis told deputies that an armed man entered their vehicle, threatened them with a gun and caused the crash. The office said Ellis later told investigators the robbery account was false and that the women had left after the collision. Investigators said the women made up the story to avoid a possible DWI arrest.
Leavell and Ellis were booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of making a false report to police. Leavell was also charged with failure to stop and give information. The office said bond was set at $100 for each charge.
