Waller County commissioners approved plans for 24 additional homesites in Lakes of Cane Island on Oct. 28. The new section covers about 11 acres and is part of Section 9, one of 12 planned sections. The wider development is expected to have about 540 homes when complete. The neighborhood sits between Morton and Clay roads, about half a mile west of Pitts Road. It is separate from the original Cane Island community south of Morton Road.

Commissioners also accepted a construction bond, which helps protect the county if required improvements are not finished. County Engineer J. Ross McCall recommended approval. The plans were first scheduled for Oct. 14 but were withdrawn before returning Oct. 28. According to a September update from EHRA Engineering, work had already started on Section 9. Construction of neighborhood infrastructure is expected to continue into 2027.

Three builders are offering homes in the neighborhood: Perry Homes, Drees Custom Homes and Chesmar Homes. According to the community's website, homes start in the mid-$400,000s. Prices for the 24 Section 9 homes have not been announced, and no start date for home construction there has been announced. The county's approval does not mean the homes have been built.
