A flood watch is in effect from Thursday morning through Friday afternoon for parts of southeast New Mexico and West Texas. The watch covers Midland, Ector and other counties in West Texas, along with several counties in southeast New Mexico.

Deep moisture moving into the region ahead of a storm system is expected to bring numerous showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday. The Midland/Odessa National Weather Service office said rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts. It said the main threat is flash flooding. Chances are expected to largely diminish Friday evening and overnight.

The Weather Prediction Center has a slight risk of excessive rainfall for Thursday, Oct. 29. Flooding could occur along rivers, creeks and streams, as well as in urban areas and places with poor drainage. Residents should monitor local forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions.
