Claire Valdez, a citizen of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, has been elected to represent New York's 7th Congressional District. She is New York's first known Indigenous member of Congress.

According to a social media post from Indian Country Today, Valdez is a Democratic state assemblymember and union organizer. She will represent parts of Brooklyn and Queens.
