Williamson County commissioners adopted a new rule and a 6% tax rate for the Local Provider Participation Fund on October 20.

The fund uses hospital payments to help pay for medical assistance and offset the cost of care for uninsured patients. County Auditor Julie Kiley said the fund is a tax the county places on hospitals, and that hospitals requested it.

The rate is set at 6% of each institutional healthcare provider's net patient revenue.
