Police in Jefferson are investigating after a woman entered a Marion County polling place without authorization Friday evening while election workers were closing the polls, according to the Jefferson Police Department.

The department said officers responded to the polling place at North Alley and Webster Street on reports of a disorderly person. According to a statement from the department, the woman entered through another entrance and exchanged words with election workers, who were preparing equipment and ballots for transport. She left after being told law enforcement had been called and was gone before officers arrived.

The statement said information provided to police shows the ballots were not compromised. The department is working with the Marion County District Attorney's Office to evaluate possible Election Code violations and interference with election workers.
