Tracy Arthur Kachadourian, a Wayland Baptist University alumna, has established the LaWana Moore Student Emergency Fund. The fund gives limited, short-term help to eligible students on Wayland's Plainview campus when an unforeseen emergency threatens their ability to stay enrolled.

Kachadourian said Moore first reached her when she was 14 and living in a Lubbock shelter. Moore invited the teens there to church, offered rides and took them to breakfast before services. Kachadourian said Moore kept driving her to church, a 45-minute trip each Sunday, after she moved to Buckner Children's Home. Kachadourian said she professed her faith and was baptized through the church's youth ministry.

Kachadourian said Moore stayed in her life through college and later through her missionary service in Russia, including by letter. Moore died in 2018. Kachadourian said she set up the fund to honor Moore's practice of "recognizing an immediate need and doing something about it."
