Early voting in the midterm elections ends Friday, and the general election will be held Tuesday. Most local races were decided in the March primary and a few in the May runoff, but several remain on the ballot.

In Apple Springs, voters are being asked to continue a tax that helps fund maintenance and operations. The newspaper said the tax would bring in more money only because property values have risen, and that the tax was already in place. Four at-large seats on the Apple Springs ISD school board are also up for election. Five candidates have filed: Tonya Odom, Jenny Sanders, Daniel Murray and Amanda Roden, all incumbents, and Melissa Cavazos. Voters may choose up to four, and the top four will be seated. Westwood Shores voters will choose up to two members of the Municipal Utility District from Rick Renfro, Peter Black and Edward Charles Frye.

Statewide, the U.S. Senate race is between Republican Ken Paxton, who defeated John Cornyn in the primary, and Democrat James Talarico. Republican Chris Gober faces Democrat Caitlin Rourk and Libertarian Ted Brown for the newly drawn District 10 House seat being vacated by Michael McCaul. Gov. Greg Abbott faces Democrat Gina Hinojosa and Libertarian Pat Dixon. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick faces Democrat Vikki Goodwin, Libertarian Anthony Cristo and Green Party candidate Kevin McCormick. Other state offices, including attorney general, comptroller, land commissioner and agriculture commissioner, are also on the ballot.
