Uvalde High School senior Diego Lara will run in the Class 4A Region 4 cross country meet on Oct. 26 at Dr. Jack Dugan Stadium in Corpus Christi. Lara qualified by finishing among the top 10 individual runners at the District 28-4A meet held Oct. 14 in Uvalde. He placed seventh with a time of 17 minutes and 30.19 seconds.
Lara said his goal is to reach the state meet. He said a time under 17 minutes and 10 seconds would be enough to get him there. His best time so far is 17 minutes and 17 seconds. "I want to run my very best race and I want to enjoy it," Lara said.
UHS head cross country coach Libby Gonzales said Lara has a good chance of qualifying for state if he follows his running plan. Lara said he began running in fifth grade and joined the cross country program in eighth grade after Gonzales recruited him.
