Angelina County officials recorded 20,374 early votes by the close of early voting on Friday, including 19,519 in-person ballots and 855 mail-in ballots. Polls are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 21 voting centers across the county. Because Angelina uses countywide voting, residents may vote at any of those locations. Examples include Kurth Memorial Library at 706 S. Raguet St. in Lufkin, the Huntington Civic Center at 1179 U.S. Highway 69 in Huntington, and Clawson Assembly of God at 5569 U.S. Highway 69 north in Pollok.
Preliminary state figures from The Texas Tribune show more than 7.7 million Texans, about 40.5% of registered voters, cast early ballots. The Tribune said that total surpassed the previous midterm record set in 2018. About 5.5 million Texans, or 31% of registered voters, voted early in the 2022 midterms. The Tribune also reported that the early total falls short of the 9 million early votes cast in the 2024 presidential election.
Statewide races include Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democratic state Rep. James Talarico for U.S. Senate, and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa for governor. Local contests include Texas Senate District 3, Texas House District 9, Congressional District 36 and the State Board of Education District 9 seat.
