The Hondo City Council passed a tax abatement ordinance Monday night. The new rules replace a 2017 policy that had expired. According to state law, that policy automatically expired at the end of two years.

The 2026 guidelines will expire in 2028, according to the story.

The ordinance does not require the city to offer abatements. It provides guidance for discussions with a business or property owner that wants to bring in a new business, or expand or modernize an existing one.
